The QBEC was established in August 1989 by Dr. Paul Fazio and Luis de Miguel, architect.
The QBEC is a non-profit association with a membership consisting of approximately:
40% architects
30% manufacturers of building products
20% engineers
10% contractors and researchers
The QBEC organizes a minimum of nine conferences annually (August to May) on topics dealing with a variety of aspects specifically related to the building envelope, such as:
- The restoration of building façades and roofs, including the integration of new fenestration;
- Masonry, curtain wall and other cladding systems;
- Hygrothermal performance.
The QBEC conferences are presented in collaboration with:
Patenaude-Trempe, Concordia University and APCHQ
The administrators of QBEC are:
- Dominique Derome (Concordia University), president
- Mario Gonçalves (Patenaude-Trempe), VP/general manager
- Guylaine Desmarais (Patenaude-Trempe)
- André Gagné (APCHQ)
Luis de Miguel co-founded and managed the QBEC for 17 years, from August 1989 to August 2006. After his retirement from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the management of the QBEC was turned over to Mario Gonçalves.
